PRODUCTION WRAPS ON RACHEL ISRAEL-DIRECTED JEWISH SUMMER CAMP COMEDY ‘THE FLOATERS’ FOR K180 AND ATHENA PICTURES

K180 and Athena Pictures announced the offbeat female-driven comedy The Floaters, directed by Rachel Israel (Keep the Change), which recently wrapped principal photography in New York. Jackie Tohn (“GLOW,” Old Dads) and Sarah Podemski (“Reservation Dogs”) star as Nomi and Mara, respectively. The cast also includes Aya Cash (“The Boys,” “You’re the Worst”) as Rabbi Rachel, Judah Lewis (Demolition, The Babysitter) as Jonah, Nina Bloomgarden (“The Resort”, Jane) as Lindsey, Jake Ryan (Asteroid City, Eighth Grade) as Wetspot, and Seth Green (“Family Guy”, Austin Powers trilogy) as Daniel. Steve Guttenberg (Three Men and a Baby, “Veronica Mars”), Maxwell Jacob Friedman (The Iron Claw), Jill Kargman (“Odd Mom Out”) Jonathan Silverman (“Moonshine,” “Good Girls”), and Dan Ahdoot (“Cobra Kai”) round out the cast. The film is produced by K180’s Becky Korman, Lily Korman and Shai Korman alongside Athena Pictures’ Andra Gordon (Castle in the Ground, The Blue Rose).

Written by Brent Hoff and Andra Gordon & Amelia Brain, The Floaters is a multigenerational comedy in the vein of The Breakfast Club and School of Rock. The film follows struggling musician Nomi (Tohn) who accepts a last-resort job from her overachiever best friend Mara (Podemski): mentoring misfit campers, the “Floaters,” at their childhood Jewish summer camp. As the camp struggles to survive amidst competition with a longtime rival, Nomi, the Floaters, and Mara must overcome their differences to bring the community together and save the camp.

“We are very proud to say that The Floaters boasts Jewish actors cast in virtually every role – allowing for an authentic portrayal and celebration of the diversity within modern Jewish communities,” says director Rachel Israel. “The Floaters resists tired cliches often attributed in the media to embrace a rich culture and explore multidimensional Jewish characters.”

“We look forward to sharing an uplifting comedy beautifully directed by Rachel Israel that celebrates a Jewish community, which the world needs more of right now” says producers K180 and Athena Pictures.  “A formative part of our own childhoods, Jewish summer camp is a place where campers are free to be themselves and forge lifelong bonds — The Floaters captures the humor and heart of that experience that will widely resonate with audiences.
