“Rust” Armorer Tried and Convicted

The armorer on the set of the film ‘Rust’ starring Alec Baldwin was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on Wednesday March 7th, a little over two years after the incident.

In October of 2021 Alec Baldwin shot what was originally believed to be a prop weapon on the set of his new film ‘Rust’ which killed the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins and injured the film’s director, Joel Souza.

The armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was also facing another charge of tampering with evidence that was formed after accusations that she handed a small bag of narcotics to another crew member after the shooting to avoid detection.

She was found not guilty of evidence tampering but will be facing up to 18 months in prison for the murder.

“That was her job to check those rounds and those firearms.” says juror Alberto Sanchez.

Baldwin is also facing a charge of involuntary manslaughter with a trial set for July of this year.

Baldwin was originally charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in January 2023, more than a year after the incident in October 2021. But the charges were dropped in April of the same year.

Baldwin has pleaded not guilty but if he is convicted, he, too, will face 18 months in prison.
