Capstone Studios and Hammerstone Studios announced today they have tapped Steven Quale (Into the Storm, Final Destination 5) to direct their upcoming supernatural thriller Black Box (Flight 298). The film is based on the short film The Vessel, and an original screenplay from master horror writer Stephen Susco (The Grudge, The Grudge 2, Texas Chainsaw 3D, Hell Fest). Hammerstone Studios’ Alex Lebovici (Barbarian, Boy Kills World) and Jon Oakes (Drive, The Guilty) will produce alongside Capstone’s Christian Mercuri and David Haring (Bill & Ted Face the Music), Warren Zide (The Final Destination, American Pie), and Susco. Ruzanna Kegeyan and Roman Viaris of Capstone, and Clark Baker (Vessel) will executive produce. Sacker Law will handle production legal. Sacker Law will handle production legal.
Principal photography is set to begin in May in Sofia, Bulgaria. Black Box (Flight 298) follows the supernatural events surrounding Vero Airlines 298 from New Orleans to Seattle.
Director Steven Quale is best-known for his work on Into the Storm starring Richard Armitage; Final Destination 5; and American Renegades. Quale launched his career as second unit director on critically acclaimed projects including Titanic and Avatar.
