Lionsgate & American Zoetrope celebrated Francis Ford Coppola’s magnum opus, MEGALOPOLIS, with an IMAX Live Q&A simulcast to 60+ theaters around the US and Canada. Francis was joined onstage by longtime filmmakers & friends Robert De Niro and Spike Lee, who held a lively conversation moderated NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim. The Q&A touched on themes of the film reflected in our own society today, such as the need for a great debate, and how they met, how Francis’ work inspired them and continues to influence generations of new filmmakers.

Francis was joined on the carpet by members of his talented cast including Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Dustin Hoffman, Chloe Fineman, and Grace VanderWaal. MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
