Natalia Dyer (“Stranger Things”) is attached to star in a sequel to the hit supernatural horror film 1408, based on the short story by legendary author Stephen King. Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings) is also set to join the cast, and Mikael Håfström, who directed the original film, which grossed more than $130 million worldwide and became one of the most successful adaptations of King’s work, will return to direct the sequel, which he co-wrote with Mark Verheiden (“Swamp Thing”). John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are in talks to reprise their roles.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Bluestone Entertainment’s Richard Saperstein, Spyglass Media Group, and Frank Mayor will produce. Bluestone Entertainment and FilmNation Entertainment are co-financing, with FilmNation representing the international distribution rights, co-representing domestic rights with WME Independent, and introducing it to buyers at AFM next week. John Papsidera (The Odyssey) serves as casting director. Production is currently slated to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
The original film, based on King’s short story of the same name, is a psychological horror following a skeptical author specializing in debunking paranormal phenomena who checks into the infamous Room 1408 at New York City’s Dolphin Hotel, only to find himself trapped in a terrifying supernatural ordeal. The film earned praise for its atmospheric tension and psychological scares, cementing its reputation as a standout entry in the extensive catalog of King adaptations. Plot details on the sequel are being kept under wraps.
