As one of the many disappointed by 2016’s “Suicide Squad,” the newest trailer for the confusingly-titled sequel, The Suicide Squad, directed by James Gunn (“Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Brightburn”), shows promise that Gunn can bring his zany style to the upcoming sequel.
The opening half of the trailer gives a lot of background for Elba’s character, Bloodsport, who is seemingly taking over Will Smith’s role from the previous film. The trailer also shows off some of the banter between some of the crew members and gives more glimpses of the roles of Stallone, Davidson, and Courtney. As it remains, the trailer ends up giving way more time to the likes of Elba, Davis, and Robbie, fairly raising the question of how long some of the rest of the ensemble lasts.
The official synopsis provided by Warner Bros. reads: “Supervillains Harley Quinn (Robbie), Bloodsport (Elba), Peacemaker (Cena) and a collection of nutty cons at Belle Reve prison join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X as they are dropped off at the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.”
Cast: Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Taika Waititi, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Alice Braga, Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion, Jai Courtney, Viola Dvis, Pete Davison, and Sean Gunn.
Director: James Gunn
“The Suicide Squad” will be released on August 6th in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously for 30 days.
