‘The Independent’ Will Skip Theaters for Peacock

Peacock landed the rights to stream the upcoming The Independent, directed by Amy Rice. The political thriller stars John Cena, Jodie Turner-Smith, Brian Cox, and Ann Dowd.

It will bypass theaters and instead stream exclusively on Peacock, dropping on November 2nd ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

The film’s synopsis sees a young journalist (Turner-Smith) teaming up with another (Cox) to discover a conspiracy involving a U.S. Presidential candidate that could change the election and fate of the country where people would pick the first female president (Dowd) or first viable independent candidate (Cena).

Evan Parter wrote and produced the feature, and co-producers include Sam Bisbee, Thea Dunlap, Ryan Cunningham, and Caddy Vanasirikul. The film is a production of Park Pictures, Anonymous Content, and NEXT Productions in association with Orogen Entertainment and The Exchange.

The Independent joins other Universal Pictures releases that are on Peacock, such as Jurassic World Dominion, Beast, The Northman, Vengeance, and The Black Phone.
