American singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift, dominates the world with her songwriting, musical skillfulness, and influence on the industry. In fact, her latest album: 1989: Taylor’s Version, was just released tonight!
The 33-year-old star has been on her Eras Tour since March 2023, selling nearly 54,000 tickets per show. The Pennsylvania-born pop star is giving her fans the tour of a lifetime by playing songs from each of her ten studio albums. From friendship bracelets to flashy costumes, the Swifties know how to dress for the occasion. Even though not all fans of the “Cruel Summer” singer could make it to her concerts, Swift had an idea up her sleeve.
Back in August, the 12-time Grammy winner announced that she would release her Eras Tour concert in theaters for fans to enjoy! The cultural phenomenon began filming in August at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The nearly 3-hour-long debut was put together so fans could relive their Eras Tour concert experience and give fans who are unable to attend the opportunity to experience the event.
The movie premiered at the entertainment complex, The Grove, on October 11th before getting released in theaters worldwide on the 13th–which also happens to be Swift’s lucky number. It was no surprise that fans jumped at the chance to get their hands on tickets to the cinematic experience. On the first day of sales, the movie sold $37 million worth of tickets all over the U.S. Globally, it made $100 million in pre-sales. The success of the showing led to the movie becoming the highest-grossing concert film of all time. Grossing over $178 million on a $10-20 million budget, critics gave high praise for the show and Swift.
Swift encouraged fans to dress as they would at one of her concerts, wrap their arms in friendship bracelets, and sing and dance along to her songs. Theaters also gave out free posters of the movie and sold Eras Tour-themed drink cups and popcorn tins at concession stands.
In conclusion, while going to the movie was different than experiencing the spectacle in person, it was truly beautiful. Witnessing my favorite singer perform seventeen years’ worth of country and pop music was a dream come true. Several movie-goers sang and danced along to Swift’s most popular songs and really got into the performances. Her sparkly wardrobe choices, contagious dance moves, and addicting song lyrics drew fans in from all over.
From the massive snake wrapping around the stage to the literal pool she leaped into fully clothed, the musical superstar certainly made sure fans wouldn’t be bored during the show.
Her tour is continuing internationally into 2024. It’s without a doubt that Taylor Swift is not disappearing from our lives any time soon. Then again, who would want her to?
