What led you to acting?
Chantal Nchako: I grew up speaking French, with my early exposure to English primarily through watching films, especially the Rodgers and Hammerstein classics. This exposure was significant as it allowed me to dream and transform. Upon arriving in the United States from Cameroon, navigating this new culture further solidified my interest in acting. Facing assimilation challenges, I resonated particularly with ‘My Fair Lady’ and the character of Eliza Doolittle. Acting then became a tool for developing resilience and fortitude during my transition.
What inspired you to create a luxury shoe line?
Nchako: I launched my shoe line during the pandemic. Living in Italy, Cameroon, and the United States, my inspiration for creating a luxury shoe line stems from a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and a desire to offer comfort, elegance, and exclusivity www.choobizllc.com.
How do you find balance between operating your own business and pursuing your acting career?
Nchako: Navigating both my business and acting career is like a dance! I rely on careful planning and flexibility to stay in step. Setting clear goals and managing my time wisely are crucial for keeping things moving smoothly. Knowing when to delegate and seek support helps keep everything running smoothly. Good communication and solid organization are my secret weapons for succeeding in both worlds.
Tell us about your role on Diarra from Detroit. How was that experience?
Nchako: My time on Diarra from Detroit was a whirlwind of excitement! Playing Hot Sauce, the Dominatrix, injected a fiery and unforgettable energy into the series. And surrounded by such talented actors, I was constantly amazed and inspired by their dedication. On set everyone lifted each other up and pushed each other to new heights. Moreover, observing the dedication and professionalism of seasoned actors not only motivated me but also provided invaluable lessons about the craft and the industry.
Were you a fan of the Beverly Hills Cop series before becoming a part of the project?
Nchako: I was a big fan of the franchise and Eddie Murphy, knowing how he has always showcased and uplifted Africa through his work. Therefore, working with him on this iconic studio film was beyond thrilling. My mom used to say I’d work with him one day, so this feels like stepping into one of my dreams—and achieving this dream is a source of immense pride for my family.
Without any spoilers, what are you most excited for fans to see in this 4th installment?
Nchako: I am excited for fans to see Eddie Murphy’s return as Axel Foley in this 4th edition, wearing his iconic letterman’s jacket. Most of all, I am excited for fans to see the dynamic interaction between Axel Foley and my character, Officer Moore.
Do you have a favorite memory from any set?
Nchako: Absolutely! One of my favorite memories is from the set of Beverly Hills Cop, Axel F. I shared some details of how I became familiar with Eddie Murphy’s work. He called over the professional photographer to take a photo of us together. That gesture of thoughtfulness made that day so special for me. I couldn’t help but think of how proud my mother would be to see the photo. So, I gave it to her, and it sits prominently on her mantle at home.
Do you have a director or actor you would like to work with in the future?
Nchako: Oh, absolutely! Quentin Tarantino’s unique style of filmmaking has always fascinated me, and I’d love to work with him in the future. His talent for blending action, history, and genre-bending twists into timeless classics is something I deeply admire. And Glenn Close’s prowess as an actor is simply unmatched—her ability to bring characters to life with depth and authenticity is truly awe-inspiring. Working with both would be like earning a Ph.D. in filmmaking and acting.
Chantal is excited to continue sharing her acting journey and entrepreneurship with audiences around the world.
