In a news announcement from yesterday that annoyed many CB members, the sequel to The Batman has been delayed and will now be released on October 1, 2027.
Director Matt Reeves’s sequel was initially planned to be released on October 2, 2026.
James Gunn, one of the leads for the rebooted DC Studios, announced the following on his Threads account:
“To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels. 7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3.”
Besides Colin Farrell reprising his role as Penguin from the predecessor and titular Max series, we don’t have much information to share about the sequel. Robert Pattinson has claimed in a 2022 interview that he would like to fight The Court of Owls or Calendar Man.
Whether this comes to fruition from the actor’s wishlist, the DC Universe fans will have to hold off on seeing this sequel for another year whilst entertaining the first installment of the DCU in 2025, Superman (directed by Gunn himself).
