Several of 2024’s most talked-about films were horrors: Coralie Fargeat’s body horror The Substance, Robert Eggers’ Gothic Nosferatu, and Oz Perkins’ Longlegs to name a few. This year is sure to be just as stacked, with multiple iconic franchises making comebacks. Here are 13 films to anticipate:

Starring Lucy Liu and director Steven Soderbergh in his horror debut, this supernatural horror chronicles a family who moves into a new house and learns they are not the only ones living there.

Based on Stephen King’s short story, The Monkey follows twins Bill and Hal (both played by Theo James) as their father’s decades-old toy monkey returns from their childhood to create chaos.

A widow’s life turns further upside down when a mysterious woman in black frequently appears in her front yard with ominous warnings.

- Screamboat

Walt Disney’s Steamboat Willie gets a horror reimagining in this slasher about a murderous Mickey Mouse who torments the passengers of a late-night ferry ride. A date has not yet been revealed for its release. In theatres April 2025
- Sinners

Michael B. Jordan stars as twin brothers Elijah and Elias who return to their hometown during the Jim Crow era to restart their troubled lives, only to find an even greater evil awaits them. In theatres April 18
- Until Dawn

Set in the same universe as the 2015 video game of the same name, Until Dawn features an original, standalone story surrounding a group of friends who must survive the night while trapped in a valley whose murderous threats only grow more horrifying.

- Final Destination: Bloodlines

The franchise’s sixth installment is about 18-year-old Stefani, whose grandmother escaped Death in the 1960s. Angered, Death continues hunting the descendants and survivors of the first film’s catastrophe and it’s up to Stefani to break the cycle.

- 28 Years Later

Almost 30 years after the Rage Virus outbreak in the original film, a man leaves his haven of survivors on a mission to the mainland. He discovers the horrors of the outside world – and the virus’ new mutation. Danny Boyle returns as director, with Cillian Murphy serving as executive producer.

- M3GAN 2.0

Everyone’s favorite artificial intelligence horror doll is getting a sequel this summer. Not too many plot details are known, but stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw are set to return with Jenna Davis reprising her role as the voice of M3GAN.

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one last case facing terrifying, powerful entities in this ninth installment in the Conjuring universe.

- The Bride

Maggie Gyllenhaal directs this monster film inspired by James Whale’s Bride of Frankenstein (1935), originally based upon Mary Shelley’s 1818 Gothic novel.

- Saw XI

With plot details under wraps, Saw sees its 11th film possibly being a direct sequel to Saw X (2023) rather than a separate storyline from its predecessors. Long-time franchise director Kevin Greutert will return along with Saw IV–VII writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan providing the script. In theatres September 26
- The Black Phone 2

Slated to release in time for Halloween, Ethan Hawke and the rest of the main cast will reprise their roles from the 2021 supernatural mystery. The storyline is unknown, but audiences can expect the sequel to be as captivating as the original (based on Hill’s short story of the same name). In theatres October 17
