DC Studios co-chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran doubled down on the Max series’ second season debut in August.

Despite originally wanting to release the Viola Davis-led spinoff Waller first, Gunn said he had written Peacemaker swiftly and was immediately prepared for filming. With it wrapping in November 2024, he called shooting for Season 2 “a harrowing, dizzying, and wonderful experience”.

John Cena stars as Peacemaker, a narcissistic man obsessed with peace to where he ironically uses force (occasionally murder) to maintain it. The Season 1 cast includes Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Chukwudi Iwuji,  Robert Patrick, and Steve Agee. Frank Grillo will join the Season 2 cast as Rick Flag Sr., having previously voiced the character in animated series Creature Commandos.

The first season’s finale aired on February 17, 2022, with Gunn writing all eight episodes and directing five. He, Safran, and Matt Miller will serve as executive producers, with John Cena as co-executive producer.
