The 20 Most Anticipated Blockbusters of 2025

With a number of films releasing during the Summer, 2025 will prove to be a big year for reboots and sequels. That said, here are 20 of the year’s biggest and highly awaited releases:

 

  1. Captain America: Brave New World

The fifth film in the MCU’s Phase Five, Brave New World sees Anthony Mackie’s feature debut as the new Captain America. It follows Sam Wilson in attempt to thwart an international threat following the election of President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford).

Bong Joon-ho and Robert Pattinson collaborate in this sci-fi comedy about a man who goes head-to-head with one of his clones after unintentionally surviving an incident during an intergalactic colonization attempt.

  1. Snow White

With a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson, this live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1937 animated classic stars Rachel Zegler as the titular princess and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.

  1. A Minecraft Movie

Based on the 2011 video game, four misfits are pulled through a portal to the Overworld where they must work with expert crafter Steve (Jack Black) to protect the planet and get back home.

  1. Thunderbolts*

This 36th entry into the MCU and last film of Phase Five sees a group of anti-heroes, led by Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), go on missions for the American government.

A direct sequel to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2023), The Final Reckoning will see IMF agent Ethan Hunt and his allies aim to defeat Gabriel, a man whom Hunt has a history with, and the Entity, a rogue AI system highly targeted by international governments.

  1. Lilo & Stitch

Live action and CGI come together in this remake of Disney’s 2002 animated film about a young Hawaiian girl who adopts a crash-landed alien as her pet dog Stitch. Chaos ensues as the two acclimate to each other while Stitch is hunted by fellow aliens Jumba and Pleakley – unbeknownst to Lilo.

  1. Karate Kid: Legends

The sixth Karate Kid film, Legends features a storyline set three years after the final season of Netflix series Cobra Kai. Forced to move to New York City, kung fu prodigy Li Fong enters a karate competition and learns a new method of fighting by combining lessons from his teacher Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), and original karate kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio).

  1. Ballerina

Set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), this Ana de Armas-led spin-off follows ballerina Eve Macarro as she trains in the Ruska Roma traditions to avenge her father’s death.

  1. How to Train Your Dragon

This live-action remake of Dreamworks Animation’s 2010 film is about teenager Hiccup, who befriends feared Night Fury dragon Toothless and begins an unlikely friendship in the fictional Viking village of Berk.

  1. 28 Years Later

Aaron Taylor-Johnson leads in this post-apocalyptic horror set three decades after the events of 28 Days Later (2002), in which an infected chimp spreads a deadly virus throughout London. This film follows Jamie, a man who ventures out to the mainland from a secluded island of survivors and unearths the horrors that await.

Retired Formula One driver Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) comes out of retirement after a career-ending crash to mentor prodigy Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) for the Apex Grand Prix team. Filmed partially during the 2023 British Grand Prix, all ten F1 teams will appear along with cameos from drivers.

  1. Jurassic World: Rebirth

Five years after Jurassic World Dominion (2022) two covert agents, a paleontologist, and a family get stranded on an island with near-extinct dinosaurs and uncover dangerous secrets kept hidden for decades while fighting for survival.

James Gunn returns to the DCU to direct this first film of the franchise’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters series. It stars David Corenswet as the titular hero, who aims to reconcile relations between his Kryptonian heritage and life on Earth.

The first film of Marvel’s Phase Six, former astronauts with superhuman abilities must protect their planet from cosmic entity Galactus and his sidekick the Silver Surfer in a retro-futuristic, 1960s Earth.

Portrayed by his nephew Jaafar Jackson, this biopic on the King of Pop will follow his life from his time with the Jackson 5 up to his final weeks.

Jared Leto stars in this standalone sequel to 2010’s TRON: Legacy. Highly intelligent program Ares is sent on a perilous mission to the real world – marking humankind’s first encounters with artificial beings.

The iconic musical’s film adaptation returns for part two and sees Elphaba, fully embraced in her powers, declared an enemy of the state by the Wizard and Madame Morrible while exploring her drifting relationship with Glinda.

Detective Judy Hopps and sly fox partner Nick Wilde must go undercover in Marsh Market to solve the mystery of peculiar snake Gary in this sequel to 2016’s buddy-cop comedy.

Plot details are still unknown for the third installment of James Cameron’s record-breaking sci-fi franchise. However, series stars Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, and Sigourney Weaver are expected to reprise their roles as members of the Na’vi species on the planet Pandora.
