Well, it turns out that Ice Cube and Kevin Hart still want to continue the story in the buddy cop adventure realm, so the third installment is coming imminently. Maybe it has to do with the recent wave of success of the Bad Boy threequel and fourquel, or maybe it’s because there has been a general absence of this genre from cinemas.
The recent news is that a new writer has joined to write the screenplay, Daniel Gold. Gold has written episodes for Workin’ Moms and Tough Guys.
The first Ride Along came out in 2014, debuting over the MLK weekend to $48.6 million, and legging out to $134.9M in the United States and more than $154M worldwide. Ride Along 2 finaled at $124.6M global. Altogether, the franchise has raised $279M globally.
Universal Pictures will be the distributor of the third film, with Cube Vision, Hartbeat Productions, and The Story Company assisting in its production. To be determined for a release date.
