Kitty Harper’s Short Film MA PRISON Earns Double Nomination at 2026 Midlands Movies Awards

Multi-talented filmmaker, writer, director, and composer Kitty Harper has received two nominations at the 2026 Midlands Movies Awards for her powerful short drama Ma Prison. The film is shortlisted in the categories of Best Actress in a Leading Role for Sophie Bullock and Best Music (Score or Song) for Kitty Harper’s original score.

Ma Prison follows a young girl (Sophie Bullock) grappling with the devastating loss of her mother while enduring bullying and an abusive relationship with her French teacher (Susannah May). As tensions escalate, she uncovers a deeper, unexpected truth behind her teacher’s harsh actions, leading to a poignant exploration of grief, empathy, anger, and complex human connections.

Kitty Harper had this to say regarding the nominations: “My 2 greatest passions in life are music and filmmaking. To be recognized and acknowledged for scoring my own film is truly humbling. I’m also so proud of Sophie for her Best Actress in a Leading Role nomination. Very well deserved.”

The nominations were announced on 26th April 2026 at the Queen of Bradgate Vintage Cinema in Leicester.
