Live Action ‘Magic School Bus’ Movie Lands Distributor and Director

“Seatbelts, everyone!”
“Please let this be a normal field trip…”
“With the Friz? No way!”

Yes, the popular ’90s animated series, distributed by PBS for all the kids, aired in more than 100 countries and featured Lily Tomlin as the voice of Ms. Frizzle. Ms. Frizzle and the kids would journey on the magical school bus, which would transform to explore numerous locations, including settings such as outer space, the human body, and underwater.

The live-action version, starring Elizabeth Banks as Ms. Frizzle, is gaining momentum after being stuck in a purgatory of sorts since 2020. Legendary Entertainment has acquired the rights from Universal Pictures, and Rob Letterman will sign on to direct the piece. Scholastic will also be a publisher renowned for delivering a cornucopia of children’s/kid-friendly titles, which you can read about on their website.

Legendary Pictures gaining the rights means that another nostalgic chapter will be put in their hands, especially after the recent success of A Minecraft Movie, which neared $1 billion worldwide in its theatrical run.
