Spider-Man: No Way Home earned $8.3 million on its fourth Friday to bring its domestic total to around $645 million. Once the weekend is over, it’ll pass Jurassic World and Titanic to become the sixth-highest domestic earner of all time. This weekend should bring it between $25-30 million dollars, a 47-50% drop. Newcomer The 355 will be in no way, shape, or form to dismantle any of the Marvel/Sony picture’s holdings due to lack of interest and poor reviews. With Morbius now shelved till April, No Way Home will continue to amass more records under its belt (until February starts).
It will continue to push to get to the top five spots domestically, beating out Avenger: Infinity War’s $678 million, Black Panther’s $700 million, and perhaps Avatar’s $750 million. Since it is legging out more like Aquaman and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in its fourth weekend, it “might” tetter-totter around the $800 million domestic mark when it comes to the end of its theatrical run. If it happens to pull that off, it’ll be the third-highest domestic earner of all time behind Avengers: Endgame and The Force Awakens. But, we’ll see how it fairs out since COVID cases are rising significantly again, and some might’ve had their fill of Tom Holland uniting with (spoiler alert) unexpected friends to take on the past Spidey villains.
In terms of worldwide grosses, it could get close to The Lion King ($1.662 billion) and Jurassic World ($1.671 billion). It will not be able to touch Avengers: Infinity War’s ($2.048 billion) or the $2-billion-dollars club unless it finally gets some release in China. Since that is most likely not happening due to political affairs, it’ll have to settle for a strong position in the top-ten worldwide charts (which is still remarkable in today’s time). It should be past Furious 7 ($1.516 billion) and The Avengers ($1.518) sometime next week or next weekend for sure.
Who knows, maybe Scream 5 (which reportedly received strong first reactions) will be able to shoot it down a peg next weekend, but Spider-Man is still going to remain strong until February starts with the likes of Moonfall, Jackass Forever, and Death on the Nile.
For anyone out there who might be slightly disappointed with its results, remember that No Way Home is the highest-grossing Spider-Man film out there and the highest-earning film ever distributed by Sony. Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Watts, Disney, and Sony earned their spectacular bonuses and more.
