Distributor Mubi acquired the rights to the film adaptation of Ben Shattuck’s award-winning short story of the same name. Directed by Oliver Hermanus, the film is set for a theatrical release this year following a world premiere.
Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor star as Lionel and David, two men who aim to capture the experiences of Americans in a post-WWI world and fall in love during their journey. Shattuck adapted the story into the screenplay and Mescal received his first production credit as an executive producer.
Originally announced in October 2021, production was delayed from its Summer 2022 start due to O’Connor and Mescal’s scheduling conflicts. Principal photography wrapped recently, with Focus Features and Universal Pictures International securing international distribution rights.
UTA Independent Film Group negotiated the deals for all three companies.
