Box Office: ‘THE BATMAN’ Crosses $300 Mil Domestic; “JUJUTSU KAISEN 0: THE MOVIE’ Surprises

In just three short weeks, Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” has topped $300 million domestic, another $298 million overseas, for a grand total of $598,091,000 worldwide. “The Batman” grossed $36.8 million (-44.7%) this past weekend. With an April 19 HBO Max release date looming, the legs of the film will be put to the test. In fairness, HBO Max has not been heavily promoting “The Batman” hitting their service yet, perhaps in an effort to make as much as they can in theaters.

Did you know about the new anime film hitting theaters this weekend? Because I sure as heck didn’t. Be that as it may, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie” hit theaters and came in second this weekend grossing $14,818,624 in its debut in just 2,286 theaters. The film has been out since Christmas Eve in Japan and has been a hit, grossing $108 million in Japan alone.

A24’s latest horror flick, “X,” grossed a steady $4,407,750 in 2,865 theaters. This isn’t as big of a debut as other recent A24 horror films such as “The Witch” ($8.8 million debut), “Hereditary” ($13.6 million debut), “Midsommar” ($6,560,030 debut).

Lastly, Academy Award-winning screenwriter, Graham Moore, had his directorial debut hit theaters. “The Outfit” is a mob movie that takes place in one location, led by great performances from Mark Rylance, Zoey Deutch, Dylan O’Brien, and Johnny Flynn. The film grossed $1,510,000 in 1,234. Another horror picture, “Umma,” starring Sandra Oh, grossed $915,000 and was met with negative reviews (29% on Rotten Tomatoes).

“The Lost City” hits theaters this next weekend, along with film festival darling “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”
